“May you be blessed

With the spirit of the season, which is peace,

The gladness of the season, which is hope,

And the heart of the season, which is love.”

Lessons and Hymns for this Sunday, December 29, 2013

by the Rev. William P. McLemore

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS:   The first reading is from Isaiah 61:10-62:3 and the prophet predicts that God will vindicate Israel.  The Epistle is Galatians 3:23-25; 4:4-7, Paul refers to the birth of Jesus as God’s act of adopting us as Children.  The Gospel according to John opens with an image of God’s Word having been integral to the creation on the universe (John 1:1-18).  This passage is a beautiful statement of incarnation.

Lessons and Hymns for Sunday, December 22, 2013

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS: Isaiah predicts a young woman will bear a child and name him Immanuel. Psalm 80:1-7, 16-18 has the recurrent phrase: “Restore us, O God of hosts; show us the light of your countenance, and we shall be whole.” In the Epistle (Romans 1:1-7) Saint Paul opens his letter with a greeting to the Christian community in Rome. In our Gospel, we hear Matthew’s account of the birth of Jesus.

“New” Directories

The “new” directories have finally arrived! If you had your picture taken, you receive one free directory. Please find the one with your name on the back. If you did not have your picture taken but would like a directory, please contribute $5 to the cost of the extras we ordered. Only one per family until we see how many we have left. Special thanks to Deb Lang, Beth Lukas, and Melinda Aivaliotis for all their good work on this project!

Have you turned in your pledge card?

Thank you to those who have already turned in your 2014 pledges. We’re still looking for a few that have not come in yet. Could one of those be yours? If you need another card, we’d be happy to send you one or you can pick up one in the narthex on Sunday. Still considering whether or not you can or should pledge? We’re praying that you will!

Thoughts from Lori+, December 18, 2013

Among the many things that make me proud to be part of St. Paul’s is the ministry of the Diaper Bank. Since then, I’ve learned a lot!

Thoughts from Lori+, December 11, 2013

It’s become something of a joke around here that I’m responsible for all the snow… ’cause I keep praying for it! As the joke goes, only a former Southerner wants it to snow. So I admit it: I love the snow. Maybe there will be a point at which even I say, Enough! But for now, I’m lovin’ it.
