St. Paul’s started Illinois’ first diaper bank in 2009 after we discovered that government aid does not cover diapers, leaving a huge unmet need for low-income families and the elderly.

The Diaper Bank was created by the people of St. Paul’s in 2009.  We distribute diaper to four important populations:

  1. Infants & children of low-income families
  2. Disabled children & adults
  3. The elderly
  4. The sick

The Crystal Lake Rotary Daybreakers gave the first diaper donation to get the Diaper Bank going.   While only a few hundred diapers were expected, the Rotarians collected over 4500 diapers! Soon individuals, local churches and schools began holding diaper drives. Through the dedicated efforts of church volunteers and our partners we distribute 20,000-25,000 children’s and adult diapers each month.

  1. Ensure families in poverty have an adequate supply of diapers for their infants, toddlers and adults
  2. Raise community awareness that “diapers are a basic human need”, and that these needs are not being met for children and adults living in poverty
  3. Increase county-wide support of The Diaper Bank.

We distribute diapers directly to people in need and through our Diaper Bank Partners.  The Diaper Bank of Northern Illinois…providing diapers to children and adults in need.
